THE EAGLE FLIES WITH THE DOVE
Pleas McNeel (Publisher and editor)
Welcome to a preview of the Eagle Bone Whistle, the rebirth
of San Antonio's first alternative newspaper. The original
whistle existed to advocate for the civil rights, environmental
and peace activists who were demonized or ignored by the mainstream
media. It is our intention to return this institution to the
people from which it sprung in the early seventies.
Over the next year or so we will design this site to deliver,
not just print, pictures and links, but audio and video. We
want to help local committed activists to tell their stories
using the most persuasive media available.
These are scary times. Progressive people must join together
and share our resources if our America is to survive the next
decades. Now is the time and the Eagle Bone Whistle wants
to help. It may be our last chance to make a difference.

Jul. 01 Thanks for dropping in. The Eagle Bone Whistle was resurected to cover the run-up to the Iraq War. This site, for now, is an archive of San Antonio\'s opposition to that conflict.
Feb. 24 Saving Democracy "This week I visited for the first time the Museum of the Presidio in San Francisco. From there American troops shipped out to combat in the Pacific. Many never came back. On the walls of one corridor are photographs of some of those troops, a long way from home. Looking at them, I wondered: Is this what those Marines died for on the Marianas - for sweatshops, the plunder of our public trust, the corruption of democracy? Government of the Abramoffs, by the DeLays, and for the people who bribe them?

Oct. 26 Iraq War Dead For those who opposed the invasion, it's a moment to mourn our impotence: millions of us around the world did our best to stop this bloody disaster before it started, but we failed.
Aug. 20 "Hypocrites and Liars"
by Cindy Sheehan The media are wrong. The people who have come out to Camp Casey to help coordinate the press and events with me are not putting words in my mouth, they are taking words out of my mouth. I have been known for sometime as a person who speaks the truth and speaks it strongly. I have always called a liar a liar and a hypocrite a hypocrite. Now I am urged to use softer language to appeal to a wider audience. Why do my friends at Camp Casey think they are there? Why did such a big movement occur from such a small action on August 6, 2005? - t r u t h o u t | Letter
Aug. 09 update of 23 psalm "Bush is my shepherd; I dwell in want. He maketh logs to be cut down in
national forests. He leadeth trucks into the still wilderness. He restoreth my
fears. He leadeth me in the paths of international disgrace for his ego's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of pollution and war, I will find no
exit, for thou art in office. Thy tax cuts for the rich and thy media control,
they discomfort me. Thou preparest an agenda of deception in the presence of
thy religion. Thou anointest my head with foreign oil. My health insurance
runneth out. Surely megalomania and false patriotism shall follow me all the
days of thy term... and my jobless child shall dwell in my basement forever."
Jun. 24 fair and balanced One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes
on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self- pity, guilt, resentment,
pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and
faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his
grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
